Which distributors does Footprint compare?

DigiKey, Arrow Electronics, Newark element14, LCSC, TME, Farnell, RS Components and Avnet. Each card shows the cheapest in-stock vendor and lets you flip to any other distributor with a one-tap dropdown. Live prices are pulled in real time where APIs are available.

How does the BOM upload work?

Drop a CSV, TSV or XLSX exported from KiCad, Eagle, Altium or a spreadsheet. Footprint auto-detects the MPN, manufacturer, designator and quantity columns, looks up live prices across nine distributors, and reconciles a landed total in your currency — with shipping counted once per supplier instead of once per line.

What lifecycle and risk information do I get?

Every search and BOM row carries a lifecycle pill: Active, NRND (not recommended for new designs), last-time-buy, or obsolete — plus long-lead warnings when a part has lead times beyond a sensible threshold. The risk-flag glossary explains what each label means for your build.

Are the part icons animated?

Yes. Every part classification — resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, transistors, op-amps, regulators, ADC/DAC, MCUs, processors, memory, sensors, motor drivers, displays, switches, relays, connectors, RF modules, crystals — has a hand-drawn icon with signature, function-matched motion. They're CSS-driven, hover-paused and reduced-motion safe.

Does Footprint store my designs or BOMs?

No. BOMs are processed in your browser and on the Footprint server only for the duration of a search. The saved-parts bag lives in your browser's local storage; nothing is tied to an account. There are no analytics trackers and no third-party advertising scripts.

What languages and currencies are supported?

The interface ships in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Pricing displays in CAD, USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD or CHF. Currency conversion uses live mid-market rates refreshed every few hours.
