RL time constant
Current in a coil is like a heavy cart: it takes time to get rolling, and τ tells you how long the first big push lasts.
τ = L / R (63% of final current after one τ)
Ideal series RL with a step supply. R includes the coil’s own winding resistance. Switching an inductor off creates a voltage spike; use a flyback diode in real circuits.
