LED string resistor

Each LED takes its slice of the supply; the resistor eats whatever is left and meters the flow for the whole string.

R = (Vs − n × Vf) / I

All LEDs in the string carry the same current, so use identical parts. Forward voltage varies by colour and batch; leave at least 2 V of headroom so small variations do not change the brightness much.
