Capacitor energy

Energy grows with the square of voltage: double the voltage and the same capacitor holds four times the energy.

E = ½ × C × V²

Ideal capacitor. Only part of the stored energy is usable before the voltage drops below what your circuit needs. Large capacitors can hold a dangerous charge long after power is removed.
