About Footprint
Footprint connects component research, electronics learning and practical building. Find a part, understand what it does, explore how it behaves, and put that knowledge to work.
For students finding their footing, hobbyists following an idea, and engineers and technologists looking for a useful reference. Start with a question, not a shopping cart.
Search a manufacturer part number or describe what you need. Compare available supplier offers and stock, choose your currency, and follow datasheets and source links before making a decision.
The Encyclopedia brings component families to life with animations, analogies, practical explanations and references. Explore related variants, formulas and pin information where available, then connect that understanding to a real part.
Learn is the guided route through electronics: chapters, visual explanations, interactive examples and quizzes. Mark lessons complete and use Continue learning to pick up where you left off in this browser.
Playground is the experiment bench. Change component values, toggle inputs and watch a focused circuit model respond. Challenges and explanations help you connect what changes on screen with why it happens.
Projects turn concepts into build guides with parts lists, connection steps and explanations. Explore a circuit, check its references, then bring its parts into BOM Studio for review and sourcing.
Calculators cover the values that come up while building: LED and Zener resistors, 555 timing, filters, regulators, antennas, batteries, motors and wiring. Start the finder with “I want to find…”, “I am building…” or “I have…”, name your supply, tap quick values such as LED colours, LoRa bands or AWG sizes, and the right tool opens prefilled. Or type “resistor for a blue LED on 12 V at 20 mA” and the sentence writes itself. Each answer comes with expert notes and can be carried into the next calculation, then rounded to a standard value and matched to parts.
BOM Studio helps you work through a bill of materials instead of looking up every line separately. Import or paste a list, review part matches and available supplier data, and compare options before buying.
Use Learn when you want a sequence and context. Open a Playground when you want to move a control, test a prediction or see an idea click. The Encyclopedia is your reference; Projects help you take the next step into hardware.
Use linked references and the exact manufacturer's datasheet for ratings, package orientation and pin assignments. Similar names or packages do not automatically mean interchangeable parts.
Playgrounds are focused teaching models, not a substitute for a full circuit simulation or a safety review. Real components have tolerances and limits; use the lesson's assumptions and precautions when moving to hardware.
Supplier access, freshness and stock vary. Read each offer's data label and timestamp, and confirm price, availability, shipping and taxes with the supplier before ordering.
You can use the public search, learning and project tools without signing in. Lesson progress is saved in this browser, not synced across devices. Supplier lookups and BOM pricing send requests to the server; they are not offline-only tools.
Yes. English, French and Spanish are available through the language selector. Manufacturer part numbers and pin labels keep their original identifiers so the technical reference remains useful.
Footprint is self-funded and run without profit. There is no subscription, no advertising and no paid placement. Hosting, the domain and the supplier data are paid out of pocket, and Footprint earns nothing when you buy a part. If the site helps you, a coffee through Buy Me a Coffee is appreciated and goes straight to those costs. Footprint is not the seller of the components.
Footprint is built by Jordan Ilaréguy. The goal is to shorten the distance between “what is this part?” and “I understand enough to try something”, without separating learning from the practical work of choosing components.
